On Saturday 5 April we were very pleased to be working in partnership with Merton Council to host the Cost of Living support event in the New Horizon Centre from 10.30am to 1.30pm.
With helpful staff from Croydon Plus Credit Union, Wimbledon Guild, Age UK Merton, Adult Learning, Merton Council Welfare team, Clarion Housing, Citizens Advice and others, as well as two superb sessions for children from the Science Professor who taught them how to make slime to take home, and who conducted some surprising explosive experiments, we welcomed over 300 people during the morning.
They were of course very interested in getting the £10 shopping vouchers from Merton Council but also the updates and advice from the organisations represented, free teas, coffee and biscuits, courtesy of Merton Council, as well as a choice of free hot cooked meals donated from Commonside who also provided the additional space for the workshops from Croydon Plus and others.
It was also a chance for Merton Council’s Cabinet member for Health and Social Care, Peter McCabe, to see our new defibrillator that we recently installed with a good deal of support from this councillor. At the same time, we were proud to show Cllr McCabe our food-growing garden and show him some of the results we have already seen!
