Services and Support for Older People

Ensuring that older people live healthy, happy and independent lives and are integrated with the rest of the community and helping all adults to improve their lives by providing advice and support and promoting healthy eating and exercise.

Pollards Hill Lunch Club

Our Lunch Club provides a hot, two-course meal for 30-40 people a day from Monday to Friday, 52 weeks of the year.  We only close on Bank Holidays.

It is staffed by our Care Assistant, Joy, with Christine providing business support, and Vivian and Mercy in the Kitchen where we currently have 5 stars for Food Hygiene Standards.

We open at 11am and our diners go home at 2pm. Lunch is at 1pm and costs £5.  The price includes our after-lunch activities which can be bingo, exercise, quizzes, crafts, karaoke, information sessions with health professionals, advice about how to avoid scams and stay safe in your home.

Once you become a lunch club member, and membership is free, we will stay in touch with you, and with your loved ones if you request this, to make sure we know how you are if for example you do not attend on one of your regular days.

Other Activities for Older People

In our New Horizon Centre, there are a number of activities for older people of varying ages and abilities, including a gentle exercise class on Mondays at noon, run by a trainer from the Merton and Morden Guild, and a paper crafts club on Wednesday mornings.

We are always open to new ideas from groups and individuals who want to run clubs or societies or want us set up classes or meet-ups covering the hobbies they would like to develop.

Celebrating Age

At Commonside we think age should be celebrated at all stages!  We run regular charity and community events such as Pie and Mash Night, Quiz Night and Reggae-oke, and can work with you to help you organise special events and family parties.

Contact Naomi Martin on email hidden; JavaScript is required or 020 87649582 x 207 if you would like to talk through your ideas.
