Because of our work with Merton Council following the tragic Galpins Road gas explosion in 2022, we have built strong relationships with both Merton’s Borough Resilience Forum and the London Communities Emergencies Partnership, making us the lead partner in Merton for community resilience. Over this summer we worked with North East Mitcham Community Association, South Mitcham Community Association and Sherwood Park Hall, helping them to draft their Community Emergency Plans. These will help them to prepare for future extremes of heat, household or wild fires, civic unrest, power outages and flooding for example.
As a result of our work, we were selected as the Merton partner in a London-wide crowdfunder campaign to raise money with a particular focus on helping communities and community organisations to prepare for and respond to climate-related emergencies in particular. The donations made via the AVIVA platform are generously matched to 100% by AVIVA and there is a further donation of £2,000 from the Resilience Unit in the GLA.
We’ve set a target of £8,000 and you can find all the details via the link above – because of the match-funding and guaranteed top-up from the Resilience, we need only raise £3,000 from personal donations and we think we can do it!
Please help us by spreading the word about our campaign? With even just small donations from individuals in these difficult times, I think we can make our target. Whatever we raise we get to keep it, so there is really nothing to lose and I can guarantee that we will share everything we learn and achieve through this work with other local partners across Merton. If you use the link above, there are ‘share’ options on the project site.
