We broke the earth in the Garden Plot this week on Thursday. We had two volunteers – Chris and Eric, who made friends with a local dad and his toddler on a scooter who said he would come back next week. In went the hard-necked and soft-necked spring-planting garlic cloves, in one of the raised beds, and we also planted some mint and a parsley plant in one of the other raised beds.
We put in a hardy clematis and a scented honeysuckle to climb up two of the trellises. We are waiting for stocks of climbing rose to arrive in the shops to add one or two of them too.
As well as that, we planned for some summer colour with a couple of clumps of gladioli so fingers crossed!

We have plenty of allotment books that advise what to plant when, where and how, what gardening jobs to do each month, with some inspiring photographs. Come and have a browse any time for more ideas – just ask at Reception – they are in the Boss’s office.
Next week, Chris has requested we plant leeks and spinach, so that’s the plan. We will be ready, rain or shine!
