Step Forward Program

Tackling high local levels of child poverty and helping to offer every child the best possible start in life.

Our Step Forward is headed up by Jenny, assisted by Deniz and Amy. This team is located in the Step Forward Office at the back of the New Horizon Centre. They are ably assisted by a team of local volunteers.

The Step Forward Office is open daily, 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday. The team work on an appointment basis although they also have some capacity for immediate crises. Ring 020 8764 9582 x 203/4 to book an appointment.

The Step Forward Programme aims to support parents and carers with every aspect of family life, from children’s health, school and behaviour, money worries, housing difficulties, stressed family relations and any other everyday aspects where talking it through and finding practical help will make life easier and more enjoyable. The team offer one-to-one appointments and can see you just once or over a period of weeks or months according to need. They can also put you in touch with specialist debt advisers from South West London Law Centres and book an appointment with them here in our Centre, and advise where to go for Settled Status application support in Merton.

The Step Forward Programme offers after-school and holiday activities including cooking and sport for primary school-aged children and organises occasional trips and excursions.  They have good connections with local schools, nurseries, childminders, health visitors and GPs and can help you access training courses, volunteering, work experience and paid work.
